The Training Hall

"The experience of training and indeed the Dojang itself should be expressions of beauty."

The In Ji Yong training hall (or Dojang in Korean) is a place where the old ways still maintain a foothold in this modern age. It is where trust is built between students and instructors. Safety is paramount, and all exercises are overseen by multiple instructors with 10-40 years of experience. One prepares their mind for learning something new when they first enter, as they put their belt on, and as they engage the instructor. Korean words are used little initially, but as the student progresses, Korean is used as a sign of respect for the art’s origin.

In Ji Yong classes are held indoors, but classes are also conducted outside on occasion. The students will dress in street clothes, and go through practical defensive scenarios. Multiple attacker exercises are perfect for outdoor classes because it can incorporate tactics of escape and stationary weapons like a wall or the side of a car.
